PHOTO ID PETITION KICKS OFF IN MINNEAPOLIS!

Minneapolis PHOTO I.D. is a grassroots local group who believes that we must require voters to provide PHOTO I.D.’s prior to casting their ballot in City Elections.

Our electoral system cannot inspire public confidence if no safeguards exist to detect or deter or fraud or to confirm the identity of voters.

Requiring PHOTO Identification cards helps protect the rights of legitimate voters. PHOTO I.D.’s are currently are needed to board a plane, enter federal buildings, cash a check or even rent a rug doctor.

We polled 250 voters in September 2008. A staggering 237 out of 250 strongly favored the photo ID requirement! A Rasmussen poll, October 2008, showed that 76% favor voter photo I.D.

We have begun a charter amendment petition to amend the City Charter and WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

It’s time to get involved in this important issue. Help increase election integrity by taking a little extra time to gather 100 signatures in your neighborhood to put this important issue on the ballot in Minneapolis.

Our Proposed Charter Amendment reads:

In all Minneapolis elections held under the City Charter, including for the offices of Mayor and City Council, voters voting in person must present a valid photo ID card prior to casting their ballot.  Such Photo ID must be one of the following; a current Minnesota Driver License, State ID, an ID card issued by the U.S. Government, or a Tribal Government.  If a citizen cannot afford a photo ID, the city shall provide the means for the voter to obtain a Minnesota ID at no cost.
